One of the most widespread outreach program in the country, it is run by Al-Shifa Center for Community Ophthalmology popularly known as ACCO
Objective:
To deliver quality eye care at the door step of the community in rural and underserved population
Methodology
- Eye screening camps are held daily in different villages and urban slums within 200 km of base hospitals. Patients identified for surgery are transported the same day for surgery at base hospitals like Rawalpindi, Sukkur or Kohat
- Eye Surgical Camps are held in far-flung areas where eye operations are conducted there and then under safe and controlled surgical environment
- Children both in urban and rural schools are screened for vision problems and provided with vision glasses where required
- Teachers, government health workers and volunteers in the villages are trained in basic eye care so that they can refer the patients to eye specialists without any delay
- Community at large is also provided with health education through lectures, group discussions and printed material.
