This department caters exclusively for problems of the children upto 15 years of age. Multiple clinics are being run by this department. These include pediatric ophthalmology clinics, squint clinics, optometry clinic, orthoptic clinic and low vision clinic. Pediatric - Oriented opthalmologists,resident ophthalmologists, optometrists and orhtoptists each are providing services almost daily to about 75-100 children. More than 20,000 consultations are provided by this department during a year.

LOW VISION

A considerable number of patients, children, adults and elderly, are those who have servere visual impairment or blindness which cannot be cured, but they can be helped by various means like special vision enhancement devices, counseling and special training in orientation and mobility. This helps them to make best use of available sight with least dependence on familiy. Al-Shifa is the pioneer in development of these services in the country, it is also a resource center for provision of all sorts of low vision devices, a center for training and awareness of various key professional components in low vision management like doctors, optometrists, opticians, special education teachers and counselors. We have also played a key role in the developement of mulitiple low vision centers in the country by providing trained manpower and capacity building.
