Al-Shifa Trust Muzaffarabad

Construction Started

The construction work for Muzaffarabad hospital has just been started. The construction work is undertaken by Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and will be completed in one and a half years time. FWO has previously also built our Kohat Hospital. This hospital will cost about Rs. 250 million. The hospital will be on the same standard as Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital Rawalpindi, which is the mother Hospital and would provide comprehensive eye care services to the people of AJK, as well as to the Northern Areas like Gilgit etc..  Al-Shifa Trust is already popular here because most of the eye patients from here are regularly treated at its Rawalpindi Hospital and moreover its community outreach program is conducting free eye camps in the far flung areas of AJK screening and treating thousands of patients at the camps.

Rawalpindi(12 February 2007): Prime Minister AK Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan has announced that Government would provide land for Al-Shifa Trust to setup its 150 bed Eye Hospital in AK and said that the survey work for a proper site would start within a period of three weeks. He announced this during his visit to AL-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital on Monday, February 12, 2007.

He visited different departments of the hospital and expressed his satisfaction over the type of facilities and eye care services being providing by Al-Shifa Trust.
After the visit AK Prime Minister discussed the project of Al-Shifa Trust Eye hospital in Muzaffarabad with president of Al-Shifa Trust, Lt. Gen. (Retrd) Jahan Dad Khan in detail.

During the discussion the time frame for the launching of the hospital was finalized. The location would be finalized within month or so. Planning and architectural work would be started within a period of three months. It was also observed that location for the said hospital would be more feasible on Kohala –Muzaffarabad road and required area was agreed to be 8 to10 acres. It was further said that the hospital in Muzaffarabad would be a regional center for AK, Northern Areas and the surrounding areas of NWFP. The Prime Minister AK assured President Al-Shifa Trust that all infrastructural facilities would be provided by the AK government.

On this occasion president Al-Shifa Trust said that after the identification of the exact location, construction work would soon start. He also told the PM that this hospital would be on the same patron of Al-Shifa eye Hospital Rawalpindi, equipped with training and teaching facilities .

Earlier President al-Shifa Trust General Jahan Dad Khan gave the detail briefing about the activities and future planes of Al-Shifa Trust Eye hospital.
General Jahan Dad said that hundreds of patients from AK and Northern Areas visit Al-Shifa Trust daily but still there are many patients who are unable to travel to Rawalpindi for their treatment. For this reason the Board of trustees of Al-Shifa Trust decided to setup a state of the art eye hospital in Muzaffarabad.

At this occasion Prime Minister AK appreciated the great humanitarian work of Al-Shifa Trust towards the humanity and activities for the eradication of blindness. He said that the area of AK was in a dire need of eye hospital and he is very much pleased that Al-Shifa Trust is going to establish a complete eye hospital in AK.
