Case Study of Ammara

Asmara and Ammara - twin sisters were born completely blind from both eyes. Residents of Kohala, a remote town in the north, their parents never knew that a cure is possible. The twin sisters were admitted to a blind school for no fault of theirs. It is tragic, that they remained in blind school for full one year and remained undiagnosed. Fortunately, Al-Shifa had planned to undertake a survey of blind schools in the area. Asmara was diagnosed to have congenital cataract and was operated later. Her younger sister, Ammara was unfortunately not present in the school on that day. The elder sister could see for the first time in her life after was operated upon both of her eyes. Parents and Blind School teachers, now convinced that a cure was possible, brought the younger Ammara six months afterwards. Recently she has also been operated on one of her eyes. Eye operations in children need highly skilled professionals and expensive equipment. Fortunately, by His Grace, Al-Shifa has both. Case Study of Hanifa Akhtar

Hanifa akhtar is an 71 years old handicapped patient from Tehsil Gujrat. She was blind for the last 4 years due to cataract. As she could not walk her family could not manage to bring her for cataract surgery. Finally, our ACCO team came to her rescue and transported her on Al-Shifa Eye Bus. Now she has been operated on both eyes. " i had been logging for death for the last many years. I could not walk, could not see, It was a miserable life!. God bless Al-Shifa, they are angels of vision, for they have brought the zest of life back into me. I feel my life is of some use.

Case Study of Muhammad Osama

Five years old Muhammad Osama presented with advanced infection of his left eye due to injury by a broomstick. When the child presented, the eye was beyond salvation and there was risk of loss of other eye and spread of infection to brain. After properly explaining to the family the eye had to be removed to save the child’s sight and life. This was promptly followed by plastic surgery to replace it with an artificial eye to give a better cosmesis. The family is happy about the appearance of the eye. Most of the people in the village do not even know that child is wearing an artificial eye. The readers may kindly note that children must be kept away from any pointed articles in the house, specially knife, scissors, needles, and most importantly broomstick which can lead to devastating infection as happened in this child.

Case Study of Syed Amir Shah

Seven years old Irshad Abbasi from Rahim Yar Khan presented to our orthoptic department with squint in his left eye. This has been present since last 2 years and child was shown to many doctors, but every one advised to wait for surgery. Finally, forced by constant taunting by class fellows of the child, the parents traveled all along to Al-Shifa Rawalpindi, where simple orthoptic measures were advised and you can see that child is having straight eyes without any sort of surgery. Readers may kindly note that squint in a child must be treated the moment it is noticed by the parents, as delay can result in irreversible damage to vision.
