Mission Statement

Prevention and control of blindness by providing standard and sustainable eye care services which are accessible and affordable to all regardless of gender, race, color or religion. Its essential components would be hospital-based tertiary eye care services, community-oriented prevention of blindness program, need-based human resource development, promotion of basic and applied research in ophthalmology and development of appropriate and affordable technology.

1984 Idea is conceived
1985, 23rd March Al-Shifa Trust is established
1985, 20th June First Meeting of the Trust, chaired by Gen. Zia-ul-Haq
1986, 13th Aug Construction of Eye Hospital at Rawalpindi starts
1991, 28th April Inauguration of ASEH, Rawalpindi by President Ghulam Ishaq Khan
1992 Low-Cost Eye Drop Production Unit starts working
1993 Low-Cost Spectacle Production Unit starts working
1993 Low-Vision Services start at Al-Shifa for the first time in Pakistan
1993 Pakistan Institute of Ophthalmology starts training courses
1994 Al-Shifa Trust declared as WHO Collaborating Centre
1997, 25th Sept. Pakistan Institute of Ophthalmology Building inaugurated by President Laghari
1998, January Construction of Eye Hospital at Sukkur starts
2000, 30th  June Inauguration of ASEH, Sukkur by Chief Executive, Gen. Pervaiz Musharraf
23rd March 2003 Ground breaking of Al-Shifa Kohat
23rd December 2005 Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital Kohat starts functioning
18th March 2006 Partnership Award by WHO
26th April 2006 National Academy of Paramedics inaugurated by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz
30th June 2006 MoU of Quetta Hospital Signed with Govt of Baluchistan
